Iterations

Running several attempts at the same project side by side, and what does and does not carry across.

An iteration is a parallel attempt at the same project. Every project starts with one; you add more when you want to take the design somewhere without losing where it already is.

What lives in an iteration

Each iteration owns its own designs — the SpaceDesign drawing, the SpaceModule model and the SpaceSheets canvas — and its own version history.

The project's brief, site and AIRA programme sit above the iterations and are shared by all of them. Changing the brief does not fork per iteration.

Editor state does not follow you across iterations

A significant amount of local state — checkpoints, tool settings, panel layout — is scoped to the iteration you are in. That is intentional, but it does mean an undo history does not survive a switch. Save a version before moving if the state matters.

Comparing iterations

Iterations are listed on the project page with their own names and thumbnails. Open two browser tabs on different iterations if you want them literally side by side — they are independent documents and will not interfere with each other.
